NASHIA Holds Meeting With Stakeholders, Intensifies Sensitization For Informal Sector

 

 

The Nasarawa State Health Insurance Agency has, so far, enrolled over 80 percent of workers into the state health insurance scheme.

 

Executive Secretary of the Agency, Dr. Yahaya Bawa Ubam made this known during a meeting of key stakeholders at the Ministry for Local Government, Community Development and Chieftaincy Affairs, in Lafia Tuesday, 30th January, 2024.

 

Dr. Ubam said the engagement meeting was organised to increase the proportion of informal sector as well as to propose strategies on how to increase coverage of the informal sector segment of the society into the state Health Insurance Scheme with a view to achieving Universal Health Coverage.

 

While noting that much of the population of the formal sector has been enrolled, he expressed dissatisfaction with the numbers of enrollment of the informal sector, calling on stakeholders for effective sensitization and education of the informal sector to enable them key into the scheme.

 

The Executive Secretary assured of the Agency's commitment to ensuring that affordable and quality health care services are being provided by the health care providers. 

He also encouraged stakeholders to mobilize the Non Formal sector to the program to be able to access health care without financial hardship.

 

Those in attendance at the engagement meeting include people that have experience in mobilisation such as NOA, Ministry of Information, representatives of religion bodies as well as CSOs among others.

 

The high point of the meeting was group work to identify the next steps towards achieving Universal Health Coverage across the state.
