As part of its ongoing efforts to ensure that all Nasarawa State residents have access to affordable, efficient and high-quality healthcare without experiencing financial hardship and to attain Universal Health Coverage (UHC), the Nasarawa State Health Insurance Agency (NASHIA) has sought collaboration with the National Orientation Agency (NOA) to boost enrolment.

This was revealed in Lafia on Tuesday at a one-day training workshop for NOA staff in the state, particularly the Community Mobilisation Officers (COMO's), to propel grassroots education and awareness campaigns on NASHIA's programmes and policies, according to the agency's Executive Secretary, Dr. Yahaya Bawa Ubam.

According to Dr. Ubam, the two agencies' cooperation and participation will allow the state to achieve universal health coverage.

The Executive Secretary charged the NOA with ensuring that the public is aware of NASHIA's programmes and policies. He noted that the NOA's staff members are skilled communicators and information officers who have spent years spreading the goodwill of the government to all people, regardless of where they live.

"We really need the NOA to make sure that the message of NASHIA is taking to every nooks and crannies of this state so that all residents in respective of where you came from as long as you are residing in Nasarawa State you should have accessible and qualitative healthcare without facing financial hardship", he said.

While Speaking on the place of NOA in attainment of UHC in the state, the Nasarawa State Director of NOA, Dr Priscilla Gondoaluor commended the state for demonstrating high level of commitment for addressing the health needs of its citizens as indicated by her health is a fundamental human right and UHC is recognised for achieving that right.

She states that the partnership, which started with NASHIA, is essential to achieving the goals of raising awareness, increasing enrollment, and facilitating access to health care services as close to people as feasible in their surroundings.

The Nasarawa State Director of NOA assured NASHIA of adequate mobilisation and sensitization, citing NOA as one of the government agencies' organs that is largely distributed throughout all states and Local Governments and has the capacity to engage, mobilise, and sensitise the public on government programmes and policies as well as gather, analyse, and bring feedback to government.

Goodwill messages was received from the representative of the USAID Local Health System Sustainability (LHSS), Dr Simon Makaidi.

Presentations on overview of NASHIA/Universal Health Coverage, benefit package and right of Enrollees, Vulnerable Adoption, informal programme, formal/organized private sector, sensitisation and awareness as well as group discussion were among the highlights of the workshop.
